Session 101: Escape from Hexicon (February 19, 2026)
Last session, our heroes finished their shopping with Henry Randall at Euxine Wares. Henry was cautious of the murderers walking around disguised as dead people, but given that Sentin’s offer to Heph still stood he was civil and let them shop. Eden tried to get more information on what Sentin was doing with her, Maho had some harsh back and forth on why her murders were different from those of Sentin, and Heph made an attempt at repairing the broken Wand of Whispers Henry was fiddling with.
Done with that table, the party headed over to Lucien Dynastic. Sentin was demonstrating his homunculus Sares to a rapt audience of admirers and collecting job applications. He noticed them approach, and while waiting for him to finish the party showed Eden the notes he had kept on her. Sentin finished up and walked over, expressing his relief that Eden was safe, although he seemed not to be entirely sincere. The party, Eden especially, had some targeted questions on why exactly the blinds seemed to replace Eden’s will rather than augment it, and what had happened for the six months she had no memories of.
Alongside Heph’s job offer, Sentin handed one to Maho as well, also offering Eden his continued “assistance” in helping her manage her surges. Maho and Heph refused in spectacular fashion, throwing the contracts into a bucket and setting them on fire. Sentin motioned to a Central Command soldier, who called others over to start making their way towards the party. Sentin explained to Eden that he had given Maho and Heph many chances, and now it was time for the law to take over. Eden raised the notes and started reading “It seems a power resides within her she cannot control. I told her that all things are within the control of those with a strong and well-practiced will. This seemed to suade her. It is typical of one so young and naïve to think it was her will I referred to.” Eden said she knew Sentin had been lying to her from the beginning, and cast Dominate Person.
- Something comes over Eden as she casts Dominate Person, she mutters
in some indecipherable language and Sentin’s muscles
relax up as his eyes glaze over, and some clearly visible statically magical
energy flickers around the two of them
- A surge of necrotic energy emanates from Eden, making everyone feel a little sick and pale as everyone takes a bit of necrotic damage, and some sickly green energy flies back at Eden
- The prick of necrotic damage gives Sentin an opportunity to break out of the Dominate Person, and he blinks and shakes his head as he does so
- The Central Command soldiers on the other side of the room start to move in,
and the Imperial Conjurer fires off some bolts of energy, hitting
Eden and Maho once each and causing the bystanders to
flee
- Officer 1 and 2 dash towards us, not able to close the distance
- Sentin looks at Eden, saying “After all I’ve done for you, this is how you repay me. You’ve spent one day with these two and they’ve already turned you against me.”, and she looks back at him stunned and terrified
- He casts Haste on himself and turns invisible, although Eden can feel a rush of air as he flies upwards towards the ceiling
- Henry Randall starts to slowly approach, but doesn’t take any immediate action
- Heph grabs Eden and says to Maho and Eden that it’s time to go, before turning himself and Eden invisible
- Maho grabs her greataxe, slamming the hilt on the ground and activating the invisibility spell stored within, then heads towards Peg-Leg Steve
- The crowd moves apart and clears a path for Central Command
- Eden looks around and realizes the situation she is in, jumps over to Maho and touches her, which freaks her out a bit, then uses Dimension Door to teleport herself and Maho to the entrance of the convention center, and some guards by the entrance notice Eden appear, and one of them points at her and yells at her to freeze and stop right there, and she steps behind Maho
- Soldier 1, 2 and 3 rush towards where we were, following the officers
- The soldiers outside approach a cowering Eden, one of them hits Maho when trying to grab Eden and thinking Eden is protected by a ghost swings at Maho, landing one of the blind strikes
- The other two approach and seeing the first guy swinging blindly the instead attack Eden, the first guy missing, but the second guy hitting twice, dealing a chunk of damage, but Maho redirects the second attack back at the first soldier who parries the attack
- Two more officers enter the room
- The Imperial Conjurer moves closer to the center of the room
- Officer 1 and 2 move closer to where we were and head towards where Maho was headed
- Officer 3 and 4 head into the room, trying to catch up
- Sentin briefly appears in the air and looks directly at Heph, waving a wand at him and causing him to start to glow, and points at him and yells to the soldiers to get Heph
- Henry Randall is pulling a small hand crossbow out of his sleeve and is looking directly at Heph, slowly angling the crossbow towards the person next to him
- Heph activates his winged boots and starts flying away, and Henry Randall attempts to shoot the civilian next to him but misses and points the crossbow at the person’s head instead
- Maho turns herself large, picks up Eden, and dashes away, putting a little over 100 feet between herself and the soldiers
- Peg-Leg Steve dashes up to Henry Randall
- Eden grabs Maho’s greataxe and turns herself invisible with a charge and gives Maho some bardic inspiration
- The outside soldiers fire crossbow bolts towards where they last saw Eden, one shot landing and taking her unconscious in Maho’s arms, and then move a bit closer, attempting to chase Maho and Eden
- Soldier 1, 2 and 3 look up at Heph, firing 6 shots at him, but miss all of them
- The Imperial Conjurer blasts Heph with a Cone of Cold, which he is
unable to dodge, but he manages to absorb the damage without too much issue
- Officer 1 through 4 grab spears and throw them at Heph, missing most of the throws but landing two critical hits
- Sentin looks at Heph and tells him to turn himself in, saying no one else needs to get hurt, but Heph doesn’t answer, and Sentin takes out a toad wand and casts ray of sickness, which misses Heph, and then turns invisible again
- Henry Randall seems to ready himself to shoot the civilian
- Heph shatters a skylight and flies out, and Henry Randall shoots the civilian, and as Heph looks back in he sees the person Henry shot with a crossbow bolt sticking out of their back, and seeing a number of people covered in falling glass from the shattered skylight and heads to the southern end of the building
- Maho, carrying an unconscious Eden, continues to sprint away, ducking into an alley, activating her cloud rune to help Eden survive
- Peg-Leg Steve tackles and disarms Henry Randall
- Eden succeeds on a death save
- The outside soldiers continue their chase, but can’t catch up to Maho
- The inside soldiers can’t help capture Heph
- The Imperial Conjurer casts fly on herself and flies up to the roof, seeing
Heph but unable to do anything this turn
- The officers can’t do anything to help catch Heph
- Sentin hovers invisibly, but is a bit lethargic, although Heph doesn’t see this
- Henry Randall lays on the ground, surrendering to Peg-Leg Steve, as a bunch of angry civilians approach Henry Randall
- Heph tries to convince the Imperial Conjurer to let him go, but not seeming to understand who the “Tomb Party King” is, Heph pulls out a sending stone and says “Hey Luise, I’m having an issue with one of your Midnight Storms. Could you do me a favor and order her to stand down? Thanks!”
- The Princess sends a message telling her to stand down and talk it out, and after Heph explains that Sentin will try to kill him, she agrees to head down to the front of the convention center
- Maho continues sprinting, trying to put more distance between herself and the soldiers
- Eden succeeds on another death saving throw, with advantage from Maho’s storm rune
- The Imperial Conjurer flies with Heph down to the front of the
convention center, and the Princess arrives escorted
by a group of guards, and waves to Heph yelling out “Tomb Party
King, hello!”
- Heph asks the princess to get him out of there since Sentin wants to kill him, and she says of course, let’s get somewhere more comfortable
- Her guard tries to push her into a carriage and are trying to get her out of there, but she replies that she has a big carriage and there is room for Heph, and she gestures for Heph to get in as well over the objections of the conjurer
- The conjurer demands to accompany Heph and the princess
- The cleric that was with group that was protesting outside of Hexicon is fully levitating and they are approaching Hexicon, and as Heph makes eye contact with her she looks from Heph to what is happening
- Heph tells her there is a man inside wreaking havoc with magic and she might have been right, and she responds that she is not there to target any individual but rather to show Sarnann’s might, and she floats up higher in the air, raises her arms, and casts Mass Healing Word on some of the people stumbling out
- The conjurer says we should really get into the carriage and go, and the princess, Heph, the conjurer and a few guards pile into the carriage and the carriage takes off into the night
- Maho runs a bit farther and then tries to stabilize Eden, which she does successfully and Eden wakes up with a tiny bit of health
