Session 105: Discussions with Gods (April 30, 2026)
Last session, our heroes had two very different adventures. Heph, confident in his plan of escape, calmly set about freeing himself from the clutches of Central Command. And Maho and Eden...well, we’ll get to Maho and Eden.
Heph woke up, ready to try and find a way to communicate past the various traps and barriers placed on his apartment prison. He read an apologetic note from the Princess and then went into the bathroom to talk to Pheh, making sure to emit a continuous stream of loud, wet fart noises so that Lieutenant Anton Taussig wouldn’t suspect anything was going on. Putting his head together with his mirror counterpart, he passed a Sending Stone through to Pheh, and vice versa. The Stones operated on different arcane frequencies across spectral planes, allowing them to Send out past the walls of Palace Rabenstein to Governor Literi. Heph received a staticky message back, offering diplomatic immunity through whatever clout the Governor had with the Bismarck Empire.
Meanwhile, Maho and Eden woke up. Eden rung her bell for imp service, Maho smashed the imp against the wall, and both set about preparing their day. Maho found a strange white stone left by Yura overnight, and Mort passed off his Toke of Kush to Eden, as well as a pack of ciggies. They sent a message to Heph through Mort (which set off a number of alarms), and then decided to head to Palace Rabenstein. Maho left a note for Heph in case he escaped without them, Mort teleported off to Ivalgo, and they headed out.
Tasked with stealthily traversing Bad Zamdorf, Maho and Eden decided on a plan. Eden would Polymorph Maho into a giant eagle, and they would fly across the city towards Vogue Alley. They were spotted...pretty quickly, but managed to make the trip without the eagle form dropping or Eden losing concentration, despite the fact she was throwing herself in the way of many of the crossbow bolts fired by Central Command.
Eventually, while Heph enjoyed a nice tea with Jan and patiently waited for his plan to work out, Maho and Eden arrived near the palace. They terrified Karrl, but eventually Heph recognized Eden’s owl and Maho flew to hide behind a nearby building.
Governor Literi arrived, rushing in on a horse, and presented a scroll for the Central Command guards to read. Disappointed, they assented to releasing Heph, albeit with the requirement that he leave the Bismarck Empire with all haste by midday tomorrow. Heph tipped Jan heavily, and Jan brought out all his possessions, oddly showing a number of scratches on his face that weren’t there a moment before. Also included among his effects were some shrimp that Jan slipped in. Governor Literi offered Heph a spot on his horse, but the Imperial Conjurer Ginevra took off, seeing sparks that Eden had made to get Heph to spot her.
- The conjurer, Ginevra, flies off towards Eden and Maho
- Eden debates if they should use Dimension Door or Invisibility, and decides on Invisibility
- As she casts it on them, Maho turns back into her normal form as she turns invisible
- As she turns invisible, she sniffles a bit, and suddenly sneezes out a massive bunch of magic goo, and feels like her dexterity is decreased and she has lost metamagic
- Maho asks if Eden needs to be carried, and Eden responds yes, and proceeds to try to guide Maho to her with her voice as they are both invisible
- Eden and Maho debate a bit what to do next and how to get off the roof, debating jumping down or waiting to attack Ginevra when she arrives
- Ginevra arrives and circles the building a few times, but doesn’t seem like she is able to spot them, and she circles the building observing for a bit
- As Heph climbs up onto the Governor’s horse,
as he offers to bring Heph back to The Grotto and have his kids
teleport him out of the Bismarck Empire
- Heph tells the Governor he’ll be fine to get himself out of the city, but he will go with the Governor for now to keep up appearances
- They pass by the building where Eden and Maho are on and has a brief chat with Eden, telling her to meet him back at the mansion, and asking if she needs help
- She asks for a Feather Fall, which Heph happily does with a subtle spell metamagic affect, and Eden and Maho gently float down to the ground as Heph rides by with the Governor
- Ginevra eyes Heph suspiciously, and he messages her “It was nice to meet you!” and waves at her, she narrows her eyes at Heph, seeming very much to still not like him, and doesn’t respond
- Eden can tell she really doesn’t like Heph, although she has cooled down a bit, and has a bit of a bedgrudging respect like you would have for an adversary
- Maho and Eden land, and Maho decides the
mansion is a direction and starts walking, Eden saying they should
follow the cart, and they head towards the mansion while Heph heads
towards The Grotto
- Ginevra follows Heph at a distance for a bit, but eventually glances back and forth between the building and Heph, and then flies back to the palace
- As Maho and Eden head back to the mansion, Maho carries Eden so she can take a short rest
- Heph approaches the entrance to The Grotto, which is a rocky face that leads into a cavern, and among the crowd Heph sees Paula and Paulo, the Governor’s kids
- They are talking with a group of individuals who are standing outside The Grotto, and Heph also recognizes a number of The Monks of the Pumice Fist
- Heph can tell that the monks appear to be standing back but poised for action like secret service, ready to protect the group talking to the kids
- They are all wearing commoner clothes, with one woman towards the front, but weirdly they are all talking in unison
- As Heph approaches he hears “as an envoy, we wish to make diplomatic connections with the peoples of this world. You are the children of a great king you say.”
- The Governor walks over and tell the kids it is time to
go, and asks who their new friends are, and Heph walks with the
Governor
- The people ask if the Governor is the king, and he is a bit confused, and they bow slightly to the Governor and ask if he will be their formal diplomatic contact with the Governor’s kingdom
- Heph gets a sense that these people are related to Jörnann in some way
- The Governor eventually responds, saying he isn’t a king, he is the governor of Ivalgo, and he asks who they are
- They respond that they are Sarnann and they want to establish relationships with the people of this world
- Heph jumps in and offers to liaise with them on the Governor’s behalf so the Governor can attend to his urgent business
- He tells Heph that they are square, asks Heph if he needs anything else, and when Heph says no, he teleports out of there with his kids, leaving the horse, simultaneously relieved and terrified that Mort is dealing with the attack
- Maho and Eden show up about the time that the
Governor leaves
- Maho isn’t quite sure what is going on, and tells Eden it isn’t the mansion
- Eden notices the Governor vanishing looking a bit confused, and the 5 individuals turn to Heph and say “Master Heph”
- Eden says it’s okay, they’ve met up with Heph, and drops Invisibility
- The 5 turn to Maho and are happy to see a goliath, and they bow to her
- Heph explains to Maho that the 5 are possessed by Sarnann, and then turns back to Sarnann and asks if she’s talked to her sister
- She has talked to Jörnann, and Thom is currently sleeping on Sarnann’s tomb
- Sarnann asks Maho what happened to their people, and Maho explains that the goliaths never spread much outside of Hojo
- Maho asks if they are connected to the people outside the convention center, and she explains that she has been reaching out and others have been drawing on her power, but she hasn’t contacted anyone directly yet
- Heph suggests they go feed Sarnann’s bodies and find the goliaths, and we decide to head towards the mansion and safehouse to try to find them
- Sarnann goes to get Jörnann first though, and sends a couple of vessels into the caves, and a few monks follow
- Sarnann seems very interested in getting to Cryptop, although it’s a little weird that she doesn’t know where Cryptop is
- Eden doesn’t note any sort of deception, and asks Sarnann how long she has been slumbering
- She doesn’t know, but Eden and Heph ask if she remembers any major world events or calendar dates, she says a date in Giant that Maho doesn’t know
- She then recounts an event of Zora carving the furrow, and Heph knows this to have happened millenia ago
- Heph suggests the group start to head towards the safehouse while
the other vessels find Jörnann
- Sarnann wants to find her body, and Heph suggests she asks the monks
- After explaining a bit about who the monks are, Sarnann asks them and they say her body is in her tomb
- The other vessels catch up, carrying a tired Thom
- Heph heads into the safehouse and finds all the goliaths and Mindprison, and pops back out and brings everyone else inside
- There are varied reactions to Eden, but Izume has the strongest reaction, having been conscious with Sentin while Eden was in the Blind
- Izume calms down a bit and tells Eden she is sorry for what she went through
- Eden responds that she has seen what damage she’s done, and she apologizes to the group for not trusting everyone and the damage she unknowingly inflicted upon anyone in the room
- Suzuki claps Eden on the back, a little too hard, and tells her he was in a similar boat and he almost killed Maho, and tells her they can’t be held responsible for things out of their control
- Heph suggests that the monks could probably provide vessels for
Jörnann and Sarnann, and then Eden turns him
invisible and he heads to collect the mansion coin
- Heph gets there and dispels the mansion, causing Ana to be expelled
- She freaks out but Heph tells her what is up and tells her to stealthily make her way to the other safehouse so we can get out of town
- Heph turns away and comes back, and Ana is suddenly an old man sweeping the street, and she heads off towards the safehouse
- Heph takes his time working his way back to the safehouse, trying to figure out how central command is tracking him
- Eventually he figures out it is the Wand of Whispers, and he uses the Marvelous Pigments to make a lead box to isolate it and block the tracking spell, and then heads back to the safehouse
- Back at the safehouse, Eden has developed a system for the monks to
take turns hosting Jörnann
- Sarnann is able to move freely between vessels, but Thom doesn’t seem to be able to do the same
- Jörnann might be able to do so once she is awake
- Eden tells Sarnann that we need to leave, and Eden tells her that the plan is for Sarnann to get her body back, and we will keep track of Sentin for her while she is working on that
- Eden tells her to contact us once she gets her body back, and she seems very agreeable to this
- Eden suggests it will be better to leave Thom with Sarnann, and Sarnann wants to kill everyone in the civilization after we kill Sentin
- Heph gets back around this point and fills Eden and
Maho in on the Wand
- Eden tells Heph the plan: we leave Sarnann and Jörnann here, Sarnann will help Jörnann move to a different vessel
- Then they will get their bodies back and contact us, then we will guide them to Sentin, and they will dispatch him
- The next step is then to destroy the entire Bismarck Empire and kill all the small people who reside in the desert, which Eden definitely has a problem with
- While Eden and Heph debate how to handle the giants wanting to kill everyone, Maho has a bit of a vision from Yura, and she essentially realizes that there are many pantheons of gods, and sometimes they overlap, but there isn’t any sort of explicit hierarchy between them
- At this point, Eden and Heph are sort of unclear how to resolve the situation, and looking over at Maho, they realize she suddenly has an idea
- Asking her about it, she says “I have an idea. I’m going to speed dial Yura.”
- Meanwhile, in the Shivered Sea, Mort
teleports onto the docks, rubs his hands together, and says “Alright, this is
probably good for things other than killing cockroaches”
- He casts Fly on himself, flies up, and casts Meteor Swarm
- As the ships flee, they run into a fleet commanded by Bloody Mary
- The sun reflects off of the air in front of her as if it’s a mirror, causing ships to burn in front of her
