Session 83: The one where Elias gets “engaged” (May 29, 2025)
Last session, our heroes went over a set of documents looted from Sentin’s temporary lodging in Bad Zamdorf. They found months of notes on the mysterious Harengon, as well as a blueprint detailing how runes could be applied to seeds, growing trees which could be used to control the earth itself. They attempted to give the Harengon health potions, but they simply triggered increasing incidences of Wild Magic, eventually calmed down when Maho put a fey bucket on her head.
The party reached out to Sylvia and decided to meet at the von Insel Dress House, where Princess von Riess was getting a dress fitted for her appearance at Hexicon the following day. The party arrived in their own festive attire, Elias in a pink tux, Heph in a red cloak, Maho with decorative inlay on her new plate armor, Ash in a ball gown, Suzuki in a muscle shirt, Ana in Suzuki, and Woahdoe Boedough in a hat. Despite the fact that the princess, the ruler of the entire Bismarck Empire, was just in town in a political capacity, they managed to convince her on a nat 20 to come to their druggy tomb soirée.
Fast forward to the Klippel family mausoleum, surrounded by dead ancestors, and having the time of our lives. Maho fought shadow monsters, Elias and Ash cut some rugs, and Heph attempted to convince Sylvia and later Princess von Riess that Sentin’s Blinds are bad news. Eventually the party converged on the princess, resulting in Heph being named “Tomb Party King” and invited to the palace, Maho being knighted “Lady, Chief Protector of the Crown”, and Elias being unofficially declared a prince by Ash. As the party was reaching a crescendo, Heph received a call from Sentin, saying “Trespassing is a crime. One more chance. Work for me, all four of you. Come to my booth tomorrow, I’ll have paperwork. An exceptional offer.”. Heph declined to respond.
- The party goes late into the night, and the group stays and eventually gets
some sleep, still in the tomb
- Heph gets up in the morning and uses a new infusion to replicate Winged Boots
- Maho and Ash wake with a bit of a headache but are otherwise fully rested, and Elias and Heph are fine
- Woahdoe Boedough has transformed back into a horse and is passed out in the tomb crushing at least one person, Heph manages to shake him awake and Maho manages to help him up and out of the tomb
- The guards that accompanied the princess look rather upset, and Heph uses the Marvellous Pigments to paint them up a nice hot breakfast
- He also offers to throw them a party when they are off duty, but they decline
- Elias writes a note to Sylvia and the Princess telling them we had a fun time and signs it from everyone, with everyone’s respective titles
- The group loads up into the wagon, hitching up Woahdoe Boedough, and head back
to the safehouse
- On the way back we discuss our plan for the day, and Elias starts by asking Ash to fill us in on what her Dad is up to
- Ash tells us Kogar’s goals are to gain technological, magical and political power
- Technologically he wants the Blinds from Sentin
- He wants control over where the Nor’Southern Isles appear which he thinks he can get from the giants
- Politically he is an unknown, and wants to make connections with political figures in the material plane
- A large part of why Ash was brought with Kogar was to be bartered off with a political marriage in Perrinor to gain him political capital, specifically to Herr Herzog Kohlburg, a landed noble with some audience with the Princess
- She also tells us Kogar has been attempting to increase his personal power ever since Elias left, and although they don’t have the same type of magic as the material plane, there is an inherent power there he is trying to harness
- Kogar wears a cage of iron with a specific pattern
welded into a bracelet he wears, and inside is a black stone which gives him
strength
- The cage is in the “gems and stems” pattern and the stone contains a number of fey spirits
- After some discussion, the group comes up with Heph using Heat Metal to heat Kogar’s bracelet, forcing him to fight as a disadvantage or remove it
- Heph suggests we send Kogar a wedding invitation (The Cliffside Bloodbath Wedding) for this afternoon, at the field where we found Rormir and first fought Sentin
- Arriving back at the safehouse, Heph heads in and announces to the
room that we need to plan a wedding, to which Wynn puts their head in their
hands
- Heph continues to explain it is a fake wedding to lure Kogar out into the woods where we can ambush him
- While planning the wedding, Maho checks on the Harengon, but she is not yet awake
- We decide to stage the wedding out in the field north of Bad Zamdorf, using the river as cover, and Water Walk to make the river easily passable for our people
- Heph will also use a Glyph of Warding to make an explosive force under an illusionary bridge near the edge of the cliff, hopefully causing the cliff to crumble a bit with the explosion
- The Eladrin will mostly be hidden in the partially burned tent, goliaths will help to create battlements in the ground
- Heph calls The Dagger, saying “Concocting a plan to take down Kogar this afternoon, if you are willing to help can you stop by the safehouse soon?” and gets a reply saying “Will drop by soon”
- The Dagger shows up and we fill him in on the plan, asking for his help to deliver the invitation and order the cakes, and he asks in exchange that we do not destroy the bodies of Kogar’s men, to which Heph replies that at least some of them should be recoverable
- Elias is able to sense that The Dagger has a somewhat worrying interest in people from the Feywild, and we decide to bring Izume and the Harengon with us, tucking them away safely in the wagon
- Heph brings back Karrl, and he comes back with feathers a bit ruffled, and sends Heph images of Sentin noticing him and shooting a crossbow bolt super accurately at him, taking him out in one shot
