Session 84: A Wedding is Interrupted (June 12, 2025)
Last session, our heroes awoke still in the mausoleum, getting a well-deserved if macabre rest. They left a friendly written note to the still-asleep Sylvia and Princess von Riess and headed out, ready to plan their activity for the first day of Hexicon. They decided that with Sentin busy at the convention, now would be a good time to strike against Kogar. Ash filled them in on additional details of her father. She told them that he hoped to gain some power from the ancient giants to control where the Nor’Southern Isles would appear, and that he intended to pawn off his troublesome daughter in marriage to Herr Herzog Kohlburg to gain some much-needed diplomatic standing in Perrinor. She also told them how he had supplemented his already formidable combat prowess with supernatural substance, binding an iron cage to his wrist containing a dark stone. Within the stone were a number of trapped fey spirits, granting him their strength.
The party resolved to invite Kogar to a wedding between his daughter and Elias, staged on the cliff side where they had fought Sentin. Betting on his possessiveness overwhelming his caution, they hoped he would arrive and then fall victim to a number of traps, including pitfalls, illusory bridges, cake-based ambushes, and a Heat Metal on his iron bracelet. The Dagger’s assistance was requested, and he offered to deliver the message to Kogar and pick up some large cakes in exchange for the mistguard bodies not being destroyed.
With a whole morning and most of an afternoon to prepare, the party set about planning a wedding.
- We head out to the cliff side, and start setting up for the wedding
- Heph preps 3 20ft deep smooth stone sided pitfalls, with covers
- Heph also preps a Glyph of Warding in the river, which will be triggered when Heph touches the ground with Aelos’ shield
- Heph ritual casts Water Walk on everyone, so that everyone will have the ability to trivially walk over the water
- Ash comes up to check in with Elias, who refuses to open his eyes just in case she is wearing her dress
- She tells him she is nervous, but is off to go get a dress
- The deal she made with Hooded Beth meant she doesn’t need to sleep and thus she has not tranced in a long time, and the rest we took at the mausoleum is the first time she’s had a chance to rest and relax in a long time, and she really appreciated it
- Elias is still unclear if the wedding is fake or not, but he thinks they both deserve a real honeymoon either way
- She walks away and Elias eventually opens his eyes, and asks Maho if Ash was wearing a dress or not, still strongly believe Ash was wearing the wedding dress
- Heph gives the heater device from Sentin’s Home Alone setup and gives it to Maho, and gives the Command venom vial to Elias
- Heph also figures out how to activate the Lucien Blind he stole from the convention, and keeps that as a back pocket option
- Elias attempts to steal the mask from Heph, and manages to steal one, but steals the one from the Harengon instead of the live one
- After a busy morning and early afternoon of prepping for the wedding and
ensuing fight, 2pm is approaching the final preparations for the wedding begin
- There are tables and chair and drinks and food and giant cakes, everything is prepped for a wedding that looks extremely real
- Wynn approaches Elias and tells him they have worked really hard to make the wedding nice, not just because it’s a chance at Kogar, but also because it’s Delilas’s brother’s wedding, and Elias asks him for help tying his bowtie
- Heph is wearing his armor, but with a fancy clockwork bowtie with a little pendulum hanging from it
- Maho is wearing samurai armor under a nice flowery blouse, with her hair tied up
- Izume positions everyone correct, giving Heph a speech to read out as the officiant
- As the crowd gathers, Heph gives a PSA reminding everyone of the holes in the ground
- After a moment of hesitation, the string quartet picks up their instruments
and starts playing a wedding march familiar to those from the Nor’Southern
Isles as the wedding theme from A Midsummer Night’s
Dream (a play based on a true story)
- Ash appears from the trees, wearing a beautiful wedding dress that appears to be perfectly fitted to give her the widest range of movement possible
- She is walking herself down the aisle with confidence, as someone whose father was actively trying to give her away she is very happy to be walking herself down the aisle
- She is looking at Elias and giving him a half smile, and he is smiling back
- As she gets close, Heph sends her a message reminding her of the holes in the ground
- Izume runs up and asks Ash and Elias to hold arms and wraps them with a red cord
- Heph begins to read out the speech Izume prepared, and upon getting to the part about the “rich and plentiful brood” Ash snorts into her elbow and Elias blushes a deep red
Welcome, gathered wanderers. In this desert our world was born. Now it shall witness the dawn of another. And just as the ground beneath our feet and the sky far above our heads was crafted by careful and skilled hands, so too this marriage has been fashioned, not just by these two, but by the work of their many friends and those that have added to their lives.
This world has lasted long beyond its creation, and so too we avow this union will remain unsundered past defeat and death and dissipation. May Sarnann fill your cups with everlasting joy and sustenance. May Frejnann shelter you within her protective clothing. May Jörnann supply a foundation which can be both built upon and endlessly explored. May you feed yourself from the Wild One while holding your bond strong against him. And may Wyrdein bless you with a rich and plentiful brood.
[ask for the rings]
Should anyone present know of any reason that this couple should not be wed, speak now or forever hold your peace.
- The rings are woven twigs, incorporating some of the wood from Rormir’s staff
