Session 89: “I think we should kill Thad” (August 28, 2025)
Last session, our heroes Got Weird at the Wedding Party. Elias and Ash got drunk off a strange blue liquor that Ana had stolen, causing Ash to float away while Elias leapt after her and Maho tried to bat her back to earth. Heph updated his mom on all the party’s adventures so far, prompting her to need a sit and her own drink. And Maho challenged the other goliaths to a competition with her new greataxe, absolutely trouncing them as she effortlessly cut a log into dozens of slices.
Elias approached Ana to find out where she got the blue drink from, leading to him expressing his surprise that his haphazardly scattered invitations actually got to their recipients. At this point Salty flew over with a message tied to his leg, and Elias hugged Ana in realization. He said none of this would have be possible without her, and she said he wasn’t giving himself enough credit. She also revealed that something she pickpocketed from him long before wasn’t anything physical, but was in fact his “sense of security” (definitely planned). Elias reverse-pickpocketed 500gp to her and left, promising that she could give him her final Mistress of Disguise lesson once he’d sobered up.
Maho asked Elias if he was planning on returning to the Nor’Southern Isles, and he replied something through a mouth filled with cake. Maho then walked off to talk to Princess von Riess, introducing her spectral almiraj Üü to the Princess’s ferret Tuki. Maho got invited to Schloss Einheit again, and inquired whether anything interesting had happened during Hexicon that day. The Princess wasn’t super into that nerd shit, but pulled out the booklet given to her of important attendees looking for a “Kensin Waldershits”. Maho saw an entry with notes to “make a good impression” on Sentin, as well as an entry for Magdalene Stanger, an inventor in the employ of TK.
The parents present all met, and Joerg pulled out the package he had received from Maho’s mom. Reading it, they found out that she had left Hojo in search of experience in the world like what her daughter was getting. The package also contained a cloak for Maho, indicating her success as a warrior. Maho, upset and confused, said she would have rather been given the cloak in person, and wondered where her mom had gone. Maho ran off to where the Widow Seer’s daughter was sitting alone, and asked her to scry on Mana. After gifting her some non-peanut-butter perfume, providing her with a tasteful painting of Mana Joerg kept in his wallet, and showing her a lock of hair to kick off the supernatural abilities she didn’t know she had, the Widow Seer’s crystal ball began to fill with mist, and an image of Mana started to take shape.
- In the ball, we see Maho’s mother sneakily slip into a building and
close the door behind her
- She is wearing armor, but she has cloth stuffed into the joints of her armor to keep the armor quieter
- She sneaks through the hallways, periodically hiding to escape detection
- The hallways are more brightly lit than normal, with more candles placed into sconces haphazardly
- The space seems to be rather quiet, with not a lot of activity happening, and very few other people around
- The hallways seem rough and wooden, like some building on the outer edges of something, like a shed or warehouse
- Eventually she slips through a doorway covered by a thick black curtain, and enters near darkness, which gets darker the further in she proceeds, and it becomes hard to make out details
- Eventually she emerges onto a slatted wooden floor that seems to be suspended in a large cavernous space, like some sort of catwalk
- She glances over the edge into darkness, and after a bit the darkness swirls a bit, and we can start to make out a smooth white motionless face that is looking up, seeming to be looking directly at us through the ball
- Mana grimaces, grips her sword, and then falls back into the hallway she came from, as the image in the crystal ball fades and the Widow Seer’s daughter comes back to
- She asks for tips, Maho and Elias give her one, and she puts the gold pieces on her eyes and leans back
- Heph puts a third piece of gold on the table and the group walks away
- Thinking over what we saw, the face was pretty recognizably a Lucien
Blind, but the way it moved seemed like it wasn’t connected
to a conventional body, and it was definitely looking back at us through the
crystal ball
- There were more than one of these faces, maybe about a dozen, and they seem to have been worn by creatures with some arrangement of humanoid limbs
- Maho recognizes the look on Mana’s face as the look of her on a mission
- Heph recognizes the architecture as being from the Bismarck empire, and the creatures ring a bell for Heph, reminding him of stories he read of hauntings in Wichthafen
- Specifically there were legends of a time long ago, a bit over 200 years ago, when there were wars between the Bismarck Empire and the elves, that the population of Wichthafen mysteriously vanished, and there were stories of ghosts or hauntings at night in the village
- We also realize all the people Mana was hiding from were Central Command soldiers
- Heph thinks it is conceivable that the “ghosts” of Wichthafen are people that have been wearing the masks for a very very long time, or they possibly are also actual ghosts of some sort that have been captured in masks
- Maho realizes we haven’t gotten a schedule of events at Hexicon, and she asks the guard who is feeding Tuki for one, and he gruffly responds “of course my lady” and hands her the schedule which includes a map of the convention
- The party starts discussing next moves, and it seems like Elias
needs to head back to Dalin and the Nor’Southern
Isles and take his leave from the party, at least for
some time
- Heph and Elias stumble into a plan for Elias to take over Kogar’s identity
- We decide the resistance leaders should know that Kogar is dead, but Thad shouldn’t
- Elias wants to kill Thad, but Heph convinces him that it’s a last resort, and to try to find another approach first
- The group calls over Darryl to talk to him about the plan and ask for his help, and he thanks Elias for inviting him
- Elias thanks him in return for helping get everyone there and making the day special for him
- It is established that Ash’s servants were some of her closest friends, and Frank(ine), from ClevelandOhio, is the one who helped her sneak into the dungeons
- The guards of ClevelandOhio are the Guardians, who carry wooden bats and have a thrown projectile weapon
- Abbott and Costello were the other servants who helped
- Darryl agrees to help get Elias and Ash where they need to go
- Heph messages his mom and asks if she knows how to make any sort of preservation fluid, she doesn’t respond, but walks over and says she hates when Heph messages in the same room
- In response to this, Elias messages Amble saying hi, and she says hi back
- Heph explains the plan that Elias is going to impersonate Kogar and they need to preserve Kogar’s body until Elias fakes his death
- She agrees to help preserve the body
- Maho pipes up, saying that she doesn’t really want to work for
Sentin, she vowed to never again work for a bad guy
- Heph and Elias try to convince her, but she doesn’t feel confident in the plan and her ability to deceive anyone of anything
- Ana decides to stick with Heph and Maho and help them, as they constitute the majority of the party
- Elias asks if there is anything else we need from him before he goes, and Heph replies that what Elias needs to take care of is much more important
- Maho notes that Elias already gave us Jarles, and Heph pulls out Jarles and tells him Elias is leaving, and Jarles gets sad
- Elias gives Heph his bag of googly eyes and Elmer’s glue
- Jarles asks if Elias will send him letters, and Elias says yes, and Jarles can’t detect lies so he’s happy
- Elias gives Maho the Amulet of Wind, and Heph is relieved to finally get confirmation that Elias had it, and ends up accidentally revealing to his mother that his dad was involved in some black market trading
- Elias gives Heph his Lavender Fizz Bomb as Amble gets really angry, but Heph pockets it and doesn’t use it
- Elias says that Mort is a top priority for him, and the nearby hat again pipes up replaying the recording, and Elias realizes he can use the hat to help track down Mort
- The hat suggests that Elias can wear it, and Elias flips his cloak to starry and blue and dramatically places the hat on his head
- The hat points out wearing a hat is like an open mouth kiss, and next thing you know Elias, Ash and the hat are in a polyamorous relationship
- Elias tries to give Ana his immovable rod, and after many innuendos are exchanged she decides she doesn’t want it, and Elias offers it to Maho
- As she tries to take it, Elias activates it, and Maho doesn’t realize at first and is struggling to take it
- Heph uses message to tell her to push the button, and figuring out how it works, Maho tries to use it to climb into the air, and figures out she can use it to climb if she works out a rhythm
- Elias also gives Maho a magic key that has a chance of unlocking any door
- Elias gives Heph the soap he took from the Aqua Vida Inn
- With that, Ash suggests they consummate the marriage (make some dependants for tax purposes), and Elias puts his arm around her shoulder, pulls out the tentacle rod, and walks off into the sunset with his Spouse with Benefits
- As he walks off, he reverse pickpockets 500gp into into Heph’s and Maho’s pockets, which Heph doesn’t notice but Maho does
