Session 91: Eden of the Farlands (September 18, 2025)
Last session, our heroes prepped their next steps post Elias’ departure. Izume and the other goliaths offered to find a good place to stay in the Town while Maho and Heph headed to Hexicon. They hopped in the wagon with Woahdoe Boedough, and off they went.
Outside the Hoss Convention Center, they encountered a group of protesters, seemingly followers of Sarnann who believed magic did not belong to mortals. One of the protesters, holding a sign reading “Who’s really doing the casting?” with an image of a demon puppeteering a mage, directly confronted the party. She claimed her powers had grown stronger in the last few hours, a sign from her god. After Heph changed her sign to read “I’s really doing the casting?”, and she charmed two Central Command soldiers then dumped water on Maho, both party members went inside.
Heph went to Artificer’s Alley to find Sentin. Most of the tables had already packed up, but among those remaining he met a sketchy hawker who he mostly ignored, two teen volunteers named Nelvrin and Kelvrina from whom he stole a cell phone, and a vendor named Ron Parchment who directed him to the west wing of the Convention Center where Sentin had gotten off to.
Meanwhile Maho headed with Mindprison to the Open Mystery Bar. She enjoyed a number of drinks with unusual effects with Mindprison, and with a candy vendor named Sweet Swizz. She then noticed Magdalene Stanger sitting alone at a table. Magdalene tried to pretend she was someone else, afraid of being turned in to TK. Maho assured her she didn’t work for TK anymore, and learned that Magdalene was trying to ply her passion of arcane gardening in secret. She also learned, after Magdalene really latched on to her, that she would be doing experiments on the killed Mistguard soldiers that night. Maho, feeling slightly worried for the woman, offered her protection if she needed it.
Heph found Sentin in a small conference room in discussion with two other individuals he didn’t recognize. Upon seeing Heph, he dismissed the two and welcomed him in. Heph lied that his friends had abandoned him, and that he was interested in Sentin’s offer. Sentin gave him a contract with a deadline of 7:30pm the following day. If he did not accept by that time, Sentin would no longer delay in directing the law after the party.
Heph invisibled himself and dropped by the bar. After stealing several pieces of Swizz’s candy, he had a sense that they should drop back by the Harengon. The party left the Convention Center headed for the Town. They rode down a normal residential street, only to find one building flipped fully upside down, balanced on the tip of its roof. The goliaths were evacuating. Heph flew in through a window and Maho climbed in after him, only to find the Harengon on the ground, awake, clutching her head. She looked up and said “I am so sorry”.
- Heph notices the Harengon is awake, and asks her how she is
- Heph eventually asks her for her name, and she introduces herself as Eden of the Farlands
- Heph and Maho introduce themselves and begin trying to explain the situation
- After a bit, Heph’s bottom half randomly turns invisible
- The building is creaking, and Eden is rather insistent that we should get out of the building, and Heph pulls out a rope to hang out the window, but as Eden approaches it, she sees a crowd and drops back
- The building groans and the roof collapses a bit, suddenly dropping down a foot or so
- Heph bops his head on the ceiling and Eden falls out, dangling from the windowsill
- Maho jumps out the window, grabbing Eden, and Heph flies out, Eden pulling her hood on as Maho feels a bit of Eden’s magic help her a little
- Heph notices some people hesitantly approaching to help, a dwarven man running towards the building and looking angry, and the clanking boots of Central Command approaching
- The house continues to buckle under its own weight, collapsing a bit more, glass shattering
- The approaching people ask what is going on, Heph tries to convince them to move back, but they don’t want to miss something exciting
- The proprietor is approaching, noticing our group and yelling out that he knows it was us and we will pay for it
- Eden casts Haste on Maho, and Maho tears off suddenly, leaving Heph in the dust
- Heph messages the proprietor that we will settle up with him later, and flies off in a different direction from Maho, trying to lose the Central Command soldiers
- Maho zooms into a street, right into a contingent of Central
Command soldiers
- Eden climbs up onto Maho’s head and casts Dimension Door, teleporting her and Maho to the top of a building 200 feet away behind the guards, and suggests they try to hide now
- Eden and Maho both manage to hide on the rooftop
- As Heph is flying above, he sees the crowd of people looking up at him, a little confused, scared, and excited all at once, and the proprietor yelling at Heph and shaking his fist, and Central Command soldiers pointing heavy crossbows at him and ordering him to stop
- The building collapses another story and kicks up a huge cloud of dust and debris
- Heph uses his Pearl of Power to regain a spell slot and flies behind a building, noticing Maho and Eden as he does so
- The Central Command soldiers chasing Heph round the building and again threaten to shoot him if he doesn’t surrender, not seeming to recognize him
- The soldiers chasing Eden and Maho are not able to find them, and they run off towards the building that is collapsing
- Maho notices the soldiers dispersing and notes to Eden that the “fey bullshit” seems to have worked, and starts to run back and try to help Heph, trying her best to hide behind chimneys as she goes
- Eden manages to grab onto Maho, and manages to hang on
with one hand as Maho does that, giving Maho the bit of
luck she needs to manage to stay hidden, and gives Maho a help
action
- Heph dives onto the roof and uses his restored spell slot to turn invisible, then flying off in the other direction towards Maho
- The Central Command soldiers shoot off arrows towards where Heph went, and two come close, but none manage to hit him
- The building suddenly rights itself, floating a couple of feet above the ground, and then slams down, creating a huge cloud of dust and debris
- Heph messages Maho to stop running once she is in range
for a message, and then flies up to them as Eden strokes her fur
back down from the blowdryer
- Heph catches up to them and still invisible says “well that was a mess”
- Heph and Maho discuss going back to the safehouse, and Heph asks Eden if she will turn that building upside down
- As Eden says she doesn’t think it will be that bad again, and as she does shoelaces suddenly appear on Maho’s greaves and they are tied together, and Maho trips and does a faceplant on the roof
- Heph and Maho debate where to go, Heph finally suggesting they go to the safehouse, and Eden is very hesitant to go
- Heph suggests we get off the roof, and then has a quick messaged conversation with Maho to head across the rooftops to get to the safehouse
- On the way, Heph spots the goliaths and messages Izume to head to the safehouse
- Arriving at the safehouse, we head in through the secret door, and get into
the safe room
- Eden asks Heph more questions, using Detect Thoughts on him, and Heph lets her probe deeper, not stopping the spell even though he is able to after a couple of checks
- Heph lays everything out to her, explaining what has been happening as she can read his thoughts to confirm everything he is saying
- Eden is completely shook by the whole thing, and decides to leave
- Heph asks Karrl to keep watch on her, and he heads off to follow
- He sees her ritual casting find familiar, which will take her a little over an hour
- Maho asks Heph if we’re really going to let her go, and Heph responds that I’m sure she’ll be back
- Maho is pretty concerned that Eden is going to go back to Sentin, and she knows the location of the safehouse now, but Heph convinces her to wait it out and take the calculated risk
- The goliaths also show up, and Heph fills them and Mindprison in on what has happened with Eden
- About an hour later, Eden finishes casting Find Familiar, and an
owl appears
- She uses the owl to scout out her surroundings, and is immediately struck by how far away from home she is both spatially and temporally, and how the environment in is so unfamiliar from what she is used to
- Eden heads back inside and knocks quietly, Heph opens the door with Mage Hand, and she asks if she can stay there for the night
- Heph invites her in, and tells her she can stay as long as she wants
- Eden is extremely hungry, and we start to pile food in front of her as she hasn’t eaten in 7 months
- Heph asks Ana to come out and introduce herself, and she appears from one of the slices of cake
- Eden and Ana start curtseying to each other, and Ana is ultimately able to curtsey lower as Eden falls on her ass
- We decide to go to Ivalgo, and Heph convinces Eden that it’s going to be okay, even though Ivalgo is under active siege
- Heph grabs Karrl, and Eden dismisses her owl to a pocket dimension
- Maho uses the mussel to create a doorway from the safehouse to the front door of her house back in Ivalgo
- Slipping through the portal, we all arrive in the foyer of Maho’s house
- We are met with a mix of familiarity and unfamiliarity, surrounded by uncertainty and tension
